A note on
the format

A record is the only format you can hold up to the light and see the music in.

We cut lacquers in a former net loft above the harbour, press in short runs, and sleeve every copy by hand.

Nothing leaves the building until somebody here has listened to it the whole way through — which is the slowest quality check in the industry, and the only one we trust.

02 / Roster

Four artists, and no A&R department.

03 / Sessions

One take, two microphones, no fixing afterwards.

Ola Wrzos — Wydmy, end to end
Northern Gannet — Two amps, one room
Kaseta — Tape loops, live
Lowtide Choir — Slack water
01 / 0441 min

Every artist on the roster plays the loft once a year. We roll tape, nobody gets a second pass, and whatever the room did that afternoon is what goes out.

04 / The Press House

Cut to lacquer, pressed on wax, sleeved by hand.

Tomasz Lelek, who cuts every lacquer the label presses

Tomasz Lelek

Founder & cutting engineer

Marram started in 2014 with a second-hand lathe bought from a closing radio station in Łódź, hauled up three flights of stairs into a net loft above Gdynia harbour. It is still the same lathe.

We press runs of three hundred, never more, because that is what one person can check, sleeve and post in a week. The name is the grass that holds the dunes together out on the spit — roots down, nothing showy above the sand. It seemed about right for a record label.
